Types of Plans
Dental coverage comes in two basic forms. Dental insurance which pays a percentage of the cost of services and allows you to receive services from any dentist. Prepaid or capitation dental programs which have agreements with specific dentists and charges you a set co-payment for services provided by one of the contracted dentists. The latter, prepaid plans, are not insurance and are the typically the only programs that an individual or self-employed person can get.  If you make use of the program, you will save money.

Is this the right program for me?
There are some things to consider when selecting a dental program. First, you must use a dentist that is in the network. If you have a dentist that you absolutely must use and that dentist is not in the network, then it won't help you on regular dental work. It may, however, help you if you have an emergency or need a specialized service that your regular dentist does not provide.  A common example is a root canal. Today, many root canals are done by a specialist, not your regular dentist. If you needed a root canal, you would probably go to an Endodontist and pay $600 to $800.  This plan could save you $150 to $500 depending on the exact procedure and who provided the service.  

If your dentist is contracted provider or you do not have a dentist that you have to see, then this dental plan is well worth having.  You could be getting the same service for less money or maybe have some things done that you have been putting off.  Having this plan helps support and/or encourage good dental health.  You spent the money to get the plan, now take advantage of the benefits.  Everyone likes to have attractive teeth.  Look at any TV show and you will always see everyone with these incredibly white teeth.  No bad teeth on TV for a good reason.  Good teeth make us look good.  This plan helps make us look better at a more affordable price.
